Work based Apprenticeships/ Standards - Guidance

Work based Apprenticeships/Standards

As an employee, an apprentice earns a wage and works alongside your experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, an apprentice receives training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. An Apprenticeships/Standard can take between 13-18 months months to complete depending on the level and type of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ skills and ability and the HSC/CYPW&FP/CWP&FP sector.

As apprentices/Standards are work-based training programmes, the training is ‘on the job’ – at your company settings.

Key benefits for the apprentice/Standard learner

Apprenticeship/Standards are structured training programmes which give you a chance to work and learn at the same time, gaining nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeship through KYP will help you gain the skills and the underpinning knowledge to succeed in your employment.

Apprenticeship/Standards support the development of a range of wider transferrable skills that employers look for. Apprentice/Standards routinely develop team work, motivation, initiative and self-development.
